I’ve been using radar detectors for about 10 years now and have purchased quite a few different brands along the way. But I’ve never become attached to any one model because none of them were perfect. I’ve had problems with getting tons of false positives as well as some detectors not picking up true positives at all, which of course has led to hundreds of dollars worth of tickets when I was supposed to be protected. So I decided to go ahead an spend the money on the Escort 9500i.

The 9500i has two unique features that I was interested in, TrueLock and Mark Location. TrueLock blocks out false positives (from store alarms, garage door openers, etc.) by frequency and location. So if I drive by a certain building on my way to work and the Escort starts beeping with no cops around, I just hit the mute button a couple of times. This does two things. It gives the 9500i the frequency of the false signal and it gives the GPS coordinates. The next time the 9500i detects the same frequency in the same location, it knows the signal is a false positive and it remains quiet. If there’s suddenly a different signal in the GPS lockout area, the 9500i is sophisticated enough to detect the difference and send out an alert.

The Mark Location is a feature that helps personalize the 9500i. I can use this feature to mark known speed traps, school zones, and other places in the area that cops like to hang out. That way, I always get a warning and always slow down whenever I come to one of these locations.

I know the 9500i is pretty expensive but trust me, these two features are definitely worth the money. I’ve been using the 9500i for over a month now and it has already saved me from at least 2 tickets. This feels like a detector that I’ll be using for a long time!
