Worthless Cordless……. Escort Passport Solo Radar Detector

, aka Cincinnati Microwave, has been producing a wireless Detector for sometime. The first wireless too was a called the . The unit used a 9 Volt battery and a Security Key to operate. The Original Detected only X and K band, and was good at it.

After took over Cincinnati Microwave, they produced the 4 and followed 5. These units featured X, K, and Ka detection. X and K were respectable, but Ka was highly limited.

Cobra ESD9220WX Cobra ESD 9220WX Radar Detector

I’d been eyeing this unit for a couple of months now but did not want to pay the $130 price tag. For some reason the price dropped $50, not sure why this unit dropped in price so much…I got it for $80. Unit seems to work pretty well. I upgraded from a ESD-6700 that gave 3 years of good use b/f giving in to the Texas heat. The display is a lot easier to read in the day and the voice seems more refined (more lady like, too bad I can’t record my wife”s voice into the unit. She’s use to telling me how to drive). The weather radio feature is nice, but there is a lot of static. The casing of the unit seems much more solid that past detectors I’ve owned and it is twice as heavy as the ESD-6700. Although I’m still yet to encounter a police car I can say that after driving around Houston I don’t get any falsing. My ESD-6700 performed flawlessly for over 3 years and saved me many times. This unit seems to behave the same as that one. Other than that so far so good…

Sensoro Traveller II Detector Sensoro Traveller II Radar Detector

First off, I would like to say that PNI Corp. was very helpful in giving me information to help me write an accurate review with correct information.

I have had the Traveller II for quite some time now and overall I am very impressed in not only its sleek design but also how well it performed. Among the few radar detectors that I have used this one is up there with the best of them.

Don’t Leave Home Without It! Whistler DE1790 SE Radar Detector

I love this detector!

First and foremost, this detector works like a dream. It lets me know when there are police in the area, before they see me. Just as important, it doesn’t seem to give false alerts, which is pretty important to me. I find the voice alerts to be attention getting, but not annoying at all. Really a great detector.

But wait, there’s more. It also has a digital compass and a voice recorder. I’m a map-guy, so I love the compass feature. I didn’t think I would use the memo function all that often, but I am surprised how often I record a “to do” list, phone number or address. It really comes in handy.

Recommended by Fast Driver… Blinder M20 XTreme Radar Detector

In my book Drive Fast, No Tickets (http://www.drivefastnotickets.com) I HIGHLY recommend the Blinder M20. In my case, it completely eliminated any laser related tickets. Period. Over two years and counting, and I have NEVER been surprised by a speed trap. Not once.

Recently, though, I have experienced a lot of false alarms; I suspect the unit has malfunctioned, blemishing an otherwise happy experience. I will probably have to replace it.

To properly use the M20, you need to understand what the ticket writer sees. First, in all 50 states, the laser operator must be within 1000 feet for any citation to be . That’s pretty close. And because of the nature of laser, they must be sitting still, pointing a very precise beam at a moving target: your car.

That means they often can’t get an accurate reading on you, and their gun will display an error message for the first few seconds. That is also what they see when your M20 is jamming the signal.

Usually within a second or two, a laser gun will trap an accurate speed, and you congratulations, you get a ticket. So the trick is to slow down quickly, then turn off your M20 and let Mountie measure a nice, law-abiding speed as you happily drive by.

I’ve done this more then 3 dozen times, and at least 15 times I have watched in my rear view as the car behind me gets pulled over.

The Blinder M20 is the single most important piece of equipment for the fast driver.

Whistler Radar Detection.. Great Purchase Whistler DE1650 Radar Detector

You never know when a cop is going to be lurking by in the woods, or behind an obstacle where you cannot see them with their radar on. All it takes is for you to be 5 mph over the speed limit and you would most likely get a near $100 ticket.

The DE1650 Radar Detector offers just as many features as the more expensive units but at the price of only $119 which is very good for such a high quality detector.

Either I got unlucky or this thing is pretty bad Whistler DE1650 Radar Detector

When I bought this radar detector I had little time to really look around. I was leaving for a road trip and only had a few minutes to shop. This detector had all the features and I decided that if it doesn’t work out I’ll just return it when I get back. And return it I did.

A good detector for the price Uniden LRD777 Radar Detector

I bought this radar detector a few months ago. I must admit that its looks had some influence on my purchase. It looks more like decoration on my dash than a radar detector. I could also tell that the display was large and easy to read in the store, and it said it detected virtually everything known to man. All of that combined with a low price made buy the LRD777 as soon as my awful detector broke.

This one really gets your attention!! Cobra ESD 6000 Radar Detector

We purchased this radar detector at Price Costco for a really reasonable price of about $49.00. From the time you plug it in and hear it state "system ready" to the time you are driving down the highway and it says "Be careful VG2 alert!", this detector gets your attention! With many varied warnings that are first stated and followed by a series of beeps that increase in frequency with the relation to the radar it is detecting, you learn to rely on this detector while you are driving. We haven’t been stopped or ticketed since we bought it!! I would recommend this radar detector to anyone who needs a little warning to slow down when police are around.

Escort Solo Radar Detector Workmanship Very Poor Escort Passport Solo Radar Detector

markets this unit for having the following key features that set it apart from other detectors: (1) It has the name [Big deal if it’s a poorly made device]; (2) it’s cordless [This is a good AND a bad feature about the . It’s good because it’s a snap to pull this bugger down when I get out of the car, but because it has such a great power consumption, I found the estimated battery life in the owner’s manual to be totally fallacious]. (3) The has programmable features where you can set things like the DIM level, or VOLUME level, etc. and have them remain set regardless of power-on or power-off. [This feature is highly overrated. First, the method of programming features on the is counter-intuitive such that I ALWAYS had to go back to the manual to program something. Secondly, the unit allows you to set the volume by using the dual function POWER/VOLUME bottom. Well, I found this way to set the VOLUME rather awkward since many times when I was trying to set the VOLUME the unit thought I was trying to turn it off and instead of accomplishing what I wanted, the unit did what it wanted].

This unit is hardly worth the estimated price of $330 (or the $210 retail price I paid for it). It performs much more

like a $50 detector . In highway mode the range is fair. A state trooper running high power X-band radar is picked up for a good distance, but locally the detector’s sensitivity to instant-on that hits traffic up ahead is fair to

poor. I’ve never gotten a radared speeding ticket with this unit (I was paced and ticketed once), but I find that the unit is not very durable at all. Technically, if it was durable, it would be a great detector, but it just does not last so I can’t justify recommending it to new detector buyers !

-

I’ve had it for 1 year and 9 months, and it failed to operate at about 1 year and 7 months. The manufacturer agreed to fix the unit for $50.00 (which is about 25 percent of the original purchase price), and they did fix it; but just 2 months after being repaired it suffered another electronic failure. This unit was never dropped and fresh batteries were always used with it so undue carelessness can’t be blamed. If I were to spend $50 every two months to repair this unit, I would soon deplete any funds budgeted for gadgets like this. The unit also, though touted for its cordlessness, puts a heavy load on batteries, even if it’s used in full DIM mode. The gain achieved by having a

cordless unit is negligible when the workmanship of the unit is so poor. It’s more of a conversation piece that it’s cordless. I hear that other models made by are good, but because this unit failed to be reliable for the long-term I would NEVER buy an detector again. Since this one is now broken, I purchased a cheaper Radio Shack 22-1693 [which features the full radar band coverage, Laser detection and VG2 protection]; after a while I will probably review its performance as well. I hope it works better.
