The Cobra 6100 was the 1st radar detector I had ever purchased. I was looking for something in the range of $75-$100, and I saw the 6100 on eBay brand new for about $65, so I snatched it up. It arrived brand new, took about 5 seconds to mount, and everything was in the package. That was the only thing good about this item.

For about the first week or so I had the detector, I was still my usual weary self, looking out for the cops when travelling at speeds way in excess of the speed limit. I hadn’t learned to trust the radar detector, and I’m glad I didn’t.

Around the 4th or 5th day I was using the radar detector, I was driving on Route 27, a dead road in Long Island, New York, at about 105mph. I noticed a cop sitting in the grassy median approximately 200 feet ahead of me, as I glanced at my radar detector, I saw no lighting up, heard no noise, and thought 2 things. 1 - Why isn’t this piece of junk working, and 2 - Why aren’t I slowing down yet?!?! I quickly took my foot off the gas, and pressed fairly hard on the brakes. I got down from 105 to 70 pretty quick, and passed the officer, he didn’t give chase. I couldn’t believe my detector didn’t pick him up, I pulled it out of the lighter socket, notified the eBay seller about it, and he said it was in perfect condition. He said sometimes it does what I explained to him, so I told him I’m very disappointed, I was cheated out of my money.

Do I think this product is a piece of garbage? Yes. Do I think it was a piece of garbage before it arrived to me? Probably. Will I ever buy a Cobra product again? NOPE!
