Whistler DE1670 Radar Detection System

Recently I began working in a new area which required me to drive farther to work than I had in previous months. So of course that changed my normal routine, as in going to bed sooner, waking up earlier, watching the sun rise, and finding a little addition to my ride to work. What I found was the Whistler, and let me tell you it works!!

Well what is it?

The Whistler is a radar detection system and several other great features built into one tiny unit. The main purpose of it though is detecting those "hidden" individuals who love to issue "constructive criticism forms" for our driving habits. The DE1670 can detect radar, laser, and safety radar.

Along with that the DE1670 is an message/memo system which allows you to store up to 6 memos or 60 seconds worth of personal reminders without ever taking your hands off of the wheel!

I have never had one before, how hard is it to use

The Whistler is extremely to figure out. I found the instruction manual to be very descriptive and well worded. Also a lot of pictures and if you are like me you appreciate that! As for actual application while driving, their patented Real Voice feature allows the Whistler to actually speak out loud to you while you never take your eyes off the road. And if you are one of those people who look at the road less than anything else, well it has a display box that will present over 60 different messages to you, provided the situation at hand.

For that kind of money, does it really work?

Yes, it really does work! The Whistler detects all kind of radar traffic, including the new VG-2 radar technology. The Whistler even has the ability to cloak itself from even being detected in your car! I know, it almost sounds like something off of Star Trek doesn’t it? So not only does the Whistler know to look for all these things, it will do it in a 360 degree circle meaning you no longer have a blind side, and there is comfort in knowing that.

Any problems encountered?

The only problem I could ever find with this unit is mounting it to the vehicle. Some people prefer to use a suction cup method to place it on the windshield, while others will mount a bracket on the dash of their vehicle. Personally I don’t care to add any holes to my car which has none at this point, so I am using the suction cup idea to use while driving. Other than that really no problems with the Whistler.

It really won’t let you hurt it, as they planned on people like me from the start. Two great features added to the package are a setting saver and batter saver that keep you from running it out of power and then loosing everything you had already placed in it when the plug gets pulled. And even if something does go wrong, Whistler has put a 3 year warranty on their system, which adds a lot of piece of mind in this buying decision.

It sounds great, but what will it cost me?

If you look at the MSRP it runs at about 199.99. But as well all know if you shop around there is always a better deal. I got my Whistler for around 150 off of the internet. That was about 2 months ago and as I searched around now I found it for as low as 112 to 120 from various websites. So as in all purchases not only do you want to make the right choice, but also make sure you get it from the right place!

An educated purchase!

For those who have wanted to purchase a radar detector and have done any searching I am sure you have heard the name Whistler before. For those who don’t know I feel that Whistler is to radar detectors as Hewlett Packard is to computers. Between their great warranty and well built easy to use items, Whistler is an easy go purchase. So if you decide to invest in a system today, spend the money one time and get the right tool for the right job. And that tool is the Whistler DE1670 Radar Detection System!
