Little more than needed unit… Whistler DE1790 SE Radar Detector
“Look Out Big Boy’s…” Whistler Pro73 Radar Detector I have purchased several Radar Detectors over the years, and I can truthfully say. The Whistler Pro 73 is ...
At 2003 prices, you won’t find better Escort Passport 6800 Radar Detector First of all let me make it clear that my personal standards are radar and laser detection range, I don't care at ...
This unit is a standard radar detector that most companies are producing; Full of features, with average detection.
The Whistler 1795 Special Edition is incorporates the 1780 and the 1785 units. The 1780 is the memo unit and the 1785 is the compass unit. The 1795 includes these functions, plus comes in Millennium Silver and offers voice alerts. The unit is highly similar to the Daytona Racing Series that Whistler offers.
The Voice alerts are virtually clear, but if overly congested, the alerts become muffled. Not many people require the Memo Record 90 seconds of info/memo but with up to 9 indexes.
The Text display is one of the smaller displays around, but very clear to read. If though you are in direct sunlight the Text is less visible like many other units out there. The text is Red and provided by Hewlett-Packard dot matrix. The Text is capable of providing 60 Scrolling Safety Warning Text messages.
The Compass, provide 5 degree increments (when calibrated) highly accurate direction. Though, if you stop at a traffic light or high powered power-lines, the unit becomes disrupted. The Detector can be program for either Detection or Compass, or both together.
The 1790 like many of the current models available, provides Safety Warning and Safety Alerts. This unit provides Voice Alerts, if selected, to warn the driver of what is ahead without the driver moving their head to see the display.
The 1790 too comes with Vg-2 undetectable (if selected), and adds Vg-2 alert (with voice). If selected, the Whistler shuts down when Vg-2 is detected for 30 sec. Though the Whistler is not immune to the NEW Spectra RDD aka Stalcar (Australian Unit). Be cautious areas that do not allow Detectors.
The Mounting of the Unit is typical Whistler. This is a good thing. The windshield mount fits the 1790 currently compared to Uniden 700 series. The Visor mount if purchased is worth it the extra if you do not like (or State Law) items on the Windshield.
The range of this detector is on par with mid priced detectors like Cobra and Uniden. The unit provides better X and Ka over the lower Unidens. This unit can not be compared to the New Vector Series Beltronics, Escort 8500, and the Valentine.
Typical Range:
X band- 1/2 mile city - 1.5 miles (max 3.0 miles)
K band- 1/2 mile city - 1 mile (max 1.75 miles)
Ka band- 1/4- city/highway - 1.25 miles (max 2.0 miles)
Laser- 6% effective
Laser can pick out a vehicle with in 750 feet, in a high flow of traffic. A Laser detected is 99% to tell the driver if they are the subject of being the target. But typical response to warning can be slim to no warning.
