A 980/970 alternative for the NAME… Beltronics BEL 890 Radar Detector

for the past years has produced Second rate detectors but at reasonable prices. Fighting for first Honors in the Detector Market, has put out many models to coupe with changes in the Police Traffic Enforcement Realm.

In the early 90s’, had put out a 966ST. This unit provided Good X band, Strong K band, put fair Ka Photo protection. At this time 34.7GHz Radar guns were only 5-10% of the market. Because Ka band is becoming a feared tool for Police, produced the 645STi/745STi. Both unit provided fair X band, Strong K and Ka band performance but only adequate Photo Radar.

Bel 985 worth its price? Beltronics Vector 985 Radar Detector

Note: This review was written during the summer of 2002 and not published until yesterday, but I still believe this is a pretty accurate review after having almost a year of experience with the 985.

Does the Solo S2 really stack up to the Escort 8500? Escort Passport Solo Radar Detector

There seems to be a lot of debate as to whether or not the cordless S2 delivers the same degree of protection as the or .

(The debate between the and rages on so I won’t address that issue other than to say that currently the edge in reviews ,for good or bad reasons, seems to be going toward the .)

Good Try, Close but No Cigar… Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Since there is not much first-hand information available about new Bel radar detector I decided to share my short experience with everyone.

We needed another radar detector for the second car. I’ve been using Passport for a year now (chose it over V1 after careful testing both units) and was more then happy with it - saved my b@tt on several occasions. Love the multiple threat display - works like a spectrum analyzer.

Good at 1st…then BAD Cobra ESD 9550 Radar Detector

I had bought this detector back in 2001 in which at 1st worked great for me. It would detect cops in K band a mile away. It had saved me a few times but many times it didn’t. I had a bright red 2002 Mitsu Eclipse that just seemed to not be able to pull off the shoulder. Keep in mind that the detector was about a year old at this time. Well one day I was out doing about 90 with me and my sis through a 55. It was night and I wasn’t sure if the lights comming over the hill were going to be a cop so I slowed down to 70…still showing all clear on my detector I thought everything was fine until about 20 feet it gives me a 3 level warining. I was like oh $hit. Needless to say I got pulled over in my own driveway. After that I never relied on my for anything besides the compass. Funny thing it worked great the 1st year. I’m not sure if it was because it was in different cars is what made the performance of the model go down. 1st car Chevy Lumina (moma’s :) 2nd Mazda MX-3 (1st real car) and 3rd was my new Eclipse. Although I had had to peel off the my 1st 2 cars when they had been wrecked (not my flaut on both I might add…no really :) Well by Summer of 2002 I almost threw it out the window if my girlfriend hadn’t of stopped me. If the reason why the quit working was because of the advancment of speed measureing devices then I’d say don’t DOn’t buy this one because you’ll have over $800 worth of tickets by the time you realize it was a mistake. I’ve just bought a X50 BLUE so I’ll be updating bout that one later. Seems to me you get what you pay for.

Not quite a Vette….but then some (52601) Escort Passport 8500 Radar Detector

The name has been around for over 20 years. They have dominated the detector market with the Original , Passport, and late 80s . After one of the founders had departed from the company (Mike Valentine) the company hasn’t produced a top-notch detector. Now with the merger (Bought out of ) the company is now back on track with a strong detector.

In the Title not quite a Vette: I would call the Valentine a Vette (factory), the a Camaro (factory), and the Bel 980/970 a Firebird (factory). If you follow cars a Camaro and Firebird are similar with the Frame, Motor and Gauges. The difference is outside appearance and packaging, but give strong performance. The Vette “Valentine” give little more all around performance.

Escort Solo S2 The King of Cordless Detectors Escort Solo S2 Radar Detector

I have previously written a review on the S2 and it got moved to a different category, plus I was less experienced then so found my review to be very unsatisfactory. Times have changed, and I’ve decided to try this incredibly popular and expensive radar detector again. The S2 is the most recent newcomer in the cordless market from . They claim that it’s much better than the . Well, here’s what I found.
