With all the extra features found on the Cobra 9850 how can you go wrong? This being my second radar detector after my first one was hunted down by the VG-2 as where I live Radar Detectors are illegal. The Cobra 9850 is not detectable by the VG-2 and so far I’ve had no problems.
Its detection capabilities are quite good, in my area X-band is still used and the 9850 can sniff it out from over 2 miles away. The K-band detection is just as good as I’ve detected K-band radar 1-2 miles away.

Ill admit it…Im often guilty of coveting thy electronic stores new things. Even if I already have a fairly new gadget I like and use, Im green with envy about a new product I wasnt warned about thats much cooler and much better than the thing I was stuck with. I know thats a ridiculous, materialistic vice but hey…I suppose it could be worse. I just wish it was cheaper.

If you are looking for a good radar detector for a medium budget, then you should check this one out. The first day I got it I tested it out and it worked like a champ. I haven’t had any other radar detectors, but to me, from all the reviews I read, and for the price it was a good purchase. I bought mine from etronics.com for around $229. I think Circuit City and Crutchfield sell it for around $299.

I recently purchased my Bel 960 and am the happiest that I have ever been with a radar detector by my side! I have had numerous radar detectors over the years, old and new Escort’s, old and new Passport’s, Bel radar detectors (when they were called Bel MicroEye), Uniden, Whistler, and Cobra.

I’m very pleased with Whistler 1650. It does the job well without the unneeded bells and whistles. I’ve read several epinions on radar detectors and how Valentine One is the best radar detector. My take on this is:
1) If you speed often enough to justify spending $300 on a radar detector, you’re a lunatic. Consider moving to Germany and drive on the autobahn instead.
2) If you have a Valentine One and still bought ANOTHER radar detector to compare it against, you need to get a life and get out of your car more often.

When I decided I wanted to buy a radar detector, I figured I should do some research first. I ran some searches on the Internet to locate the best radar detectors. There is really a lot of helpful and useful information out there once you get past all of the Phaser crap. For those of you that don’t know the Phaser is marketed as a passive radar jammer. That is suppose to send out a signal to the detecting radar and scramble the signal. Well EVERYTHING that I have read says that these don”t’ work, so don’t bother with them.

The V1 without a doubt is the best in its class. The price is steep but it might be worth it to a few who have gotten a few too many tickets.
The reason why this product is not worth it is because the customer service ABSOLUTLY could not be worse. They will try to trap you into paying them no matter what. And if you don’t pay they will just keep your unit. Well isn’t that convenient. If you dont pay the 50 dollars we will just hold your 400 dollar unit ransom.
