After being thoroughly disappointed with the Vector 995 which I returned, I bought a Bel RX65 because I got it for a good price. The Vector 995 was the worst detector I ever bought but Bel has redeemed themselves with the RX65. This detector is awesome. Excellent features, ease of use and most importantly, solid performance. I read all of the tests on this unit and it has received nothing but accolades and it is true. It has excellent filtering which is important to me. It is so quiet (i.e. minimum false alarms), that you will think that it is not working. It still does false, but far less than any radar detector that I have owned and I have owned them all. The unit uses an RJ11 telephone jack for a power plug. At first I was concerned about the reliability of plugging and unplugging the cord as the little clips on an RJ11 cord are prone to breaking. If you are good with electronics (You must know what you are doing!!!) you can make your own power cord like I did, by buying RJ11 4 pin plugs, 4 wire cable and a crimping tool from Radio Shack. I used these tools to make a direct wire power cable, tied into my ignition (Red is positive and Green is negative).

Like so many others, I am not a speeder…..I sometimes just forget to look at the speedometer and the speed limit signs in proximity of each other.

I purchased my first K40 RD650VG-2 approximately 7 years ago after my last ticket. I chose this particular model because it was mid-priced at $249.00 and for the speeding ticket guarantee which I am happy to say I have never had to use.

My first commendation for this product is its durability! Many hot summers and really cold winters stuck low on my windshield with an occasion switch to another vehicle or a short time sabbatical in the glove box. NEVER A MALFUNCTION OR BREAKAGE! QUALITY, QUALITY, QUALITY!!

I found your site to be very informative and useful. I made a mistake of buying an expensive detector before researching it …more or less i cant find enough info on it. I see you have optimstic reviews of the bell rx65 and even mention the vector 995. But i dont see any reviews for the vector 995 and the ones i see for people’s opinions they say it falses too much. My personal experience is that in auto scan mode i barely get falses. And the falses are very easy to identify. Your overall review and experience with the rx65 sounds very similar to my 995. Maybe you can point me to an article or review about this detector since i have some time to return it still. TIA

Introduction

I will drive speed limits when the cops and insurance companies wire my cold dead foot in the legal speed setting. While I am an unapologetic speeder, I’m not an overzealous speeder. I generally do prefer to go 15-20 over the posted limit on the open highway, adjusting downward of course for conditions. As a result of my attitude towards life, I have met more cops than I care to remember in my 20 years of happy motoring.
