Good Try, Close but No Cigar… Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Since there is not much first-hand information available about new Bel radar detector I decided to share my short experience with everyone.

We needed another radar detector for the second car. I’ve been using Passport for a year now (chose it over V1 after careful testing both units) and was more then happy with it - saved my b@tt on several occasions. Love the multiple threat display - works like a spectrum analyzer.

Beltronics Pro RX65 is the way to go, with no regrets! Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Bought a RX 65 last month to replace a that had lost it’s voice(??). Did my home work for 3 weeks, and started out believing I needed a V-1 but it became clear that the was a better product for a lot less $$. I picked a NIB off ebay for $225 shipped from Canada (not a clone either, be careful!). It is amazing the difference between my old one and this. 1/5 of the false city alarms and 4x the distance sensitivity to Ka. This thing even picks up back scatter Ka around turns!?!. I had read reviews that reported this to work around corners before but we all know RADAR is direct line of site (LOS) and that is not possible but the sensitivity to back scatter is amazing. When the alerts, you now have to find the source. It is out there, it might be a mile and a half in front of you or 1/4 mile to your left/right or rear but it is definatly there! My old 6 band system only looked ahead and alerted at danger close range. I am much more relaxed and confident driving with this box. Might not be the best (arguably) but bang for the buck it is all I need. I have been using RADAR detectors for near 30 years and I have finally arrived. I mouted it high in the windshield above the rear view mirror in a 01 VW Jetta with a DIY hard wire. It is not visible from the front. Lost 270 degree of LASER coverage due to mounting position covers the on top LASER “eye”. Still have full frontal LASER coverage but w/o a LASER , when it alerts to LASER, you might as well just pull over since it is an after the fact event. Buy with confidence and don’t pay over 300 from any place, shop around.

The most difficult company to work with. Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

Aside from trying to find an authorized dealer in the United States. They make it 100% clear by providing the “unauthorized” list of dealers and not focusing on providing a positive buying experience for potential customers. If you go to the www..com website, you will not find anything on authorized distributors. You need to go to the www.beltronicspro.com website to find a tiny size 1 font labeled dealer embedded on the bottom link choices. From there you can find an “authorized dealer” in your state. That is exactly what I did. I did my due diligence, selected an “authorized dealer” selling on Ebay and purchased two units in September of 07. In January of 08, the RX-65 just died. I sent in proof of purchase from an “authorized dealer” listed on their www.beltronicspro.com website and they denied my warranty. I was asked to provide a $60.00 payment option to fix my 4 month old dead . The explanation was that RBA Electronics(who is listed on their website) was not an authorized dealer. I called RBA to confirm and they happily asked me to send it in and they would replace it with a new one, no problem. As soon as I get my replacement back, I’m selling it on Ebay and buying a Passport.

Bel RX65 Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

After being thoroughly disappointed with the Vector 995 which I returned, I bought a Bel because I got it for a good price. The Vector 995 was the worst detector I ever bought but Bel has redeemed themselves with the . This detector is awesome. Excellent features, ease of use and most importantly, solid performance. I read all of the tests on this unit and it has received nothing but accolades and it is true. It has excellent filtering which is important to me. It is so quiet (i.e. minimum false alarms), that you will think that it is not working. It still does false, but far less than any radar detector that I have owned and I have owned them all. The unit uses an RJ11 telephone jack for a power plug. At first I was concerned about the reliability of plugging and unplugging the cord as the little clips on an RJ11 cord are prone to breaking. If you are good with electronics (You must know what you are doing!!!) you can make your own power cord like I did, by buying RJ11 4 pin plugs, 4 wire cable and a crimping tool from Radio Shack. I used these tools to make a direct wire power cable, tied into my ignition (Red is positive and Green is negative).

Very Satisfied!!! Whistler Pro73 Radar Detector

I did the usual internet research, read the reviews, the spec’s. I knew I needed the Bel Pro or the X50, but they’re just too pricey. The Pro 73 seemed to nudge close enough to all the spec’s on the higher priced units so I took a chance.

I drive 25 miles each way to work on country commuter roads with several 30mph speed trap zones. I didn’t buy this detector so that I could speed, but so that I would pay attention and not drift to a more normal speed of 40-45mph on these roads and pay wa-zoo.

8500 x50 vs. rx65 vs. V1 Escort Passport 8500 Radar Detector

After hours of reviewing articles, radar tests at speedzones.com, radartest.com, http://www.radar-detectors.com, motortrend.com and others, I narrowed it down to x50, , and V1. Not an easy choice for me.

Works just fine so far Beltronics Vector 995 Radar Detector

new update this should help sort out the people who actualy used the detector and those who just talk I emailed radartest.com and here is the responce-

My message-

I found your site to be very informative and useful. I made a mistake of buying an expensive detector before researching it …more or less i cant find enough info on it. I see you have optimstic reviews of the bell and even mention the vector 995. But i dont see any reviews for the vector 995 and the ones i see for people’s opinions they say it falses too much. My personal experience is that in auto scan mode i barely get falses. And the falses are very easy to identify. Your overall review and experience with the sounds very similar to my 995. Maybe you can point me to an article or review about this detector since i have some time to return it still. TIA

Let me preface this review by admitting to driving faster than the posted limit more than I ought to so I’m pretty picky about radar detector performance. I needed an upgrade from the 855STi that I had been using for quite a while and I found it in the latest ‘Top Dog’ offered by Bel, the Pro .

I have not used either the Passport/ or X50. I have no direct experience with the Valentine 1. As a result I cannot comment personally on how the stacks up against its closest competition. I can, however, tell you how it has performed thus far in the short time I’ve owned it.

If you speed, you want this! Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

My wife bought this for me because she knows I may exceed the speed limit sometimes. Perhaps she thought she’d save us money on insurance if I got caught! Due to some family things, I had to drive from NC to OH and back 3 times within 2 months. The first trip was with some detector which I had had for some time, but I also had a CB. The CB saved me and the detector didn’t even show me an alert at a radar site that said “you’re going xxMPH” at a site in WV. The next trip, with the , it alerted me well in advance of many places they were running radar. The last trip (I was really moving due to my circumstances both ways and I had a little more trust in the ), it really saved my butt several times. I averaged over 70MPH going to OH from NC, figure that out! Then it started to have a problem and finally displayed “service required.” I called , and they were nice, but said I needed a receipt. Since it was a gift that my wife spent more on than I thought she’d want to tell me, I told them I had none. They told me I’d have to pay $60 to get it fixed. I was bummed, but sent it in with a letter explaining my issue. I just got it back (no charge) with a new cord, and window mount. The enclosed note said they fixed the anttena and sent a cord. I called them and asked if I did anything to damage the antenna and was told that if I didn’t turn the unit off before I turned off the car engine, it would do bad things. Before I used to just leave it on and not unplug it. Now I know better. Plus now I have an extra smart cord and windshield mounts. I offered to send the extras back, but they said, “no, sorry you had a problem.” If you want to speed, you need this. If you want great customer service, you need these folks. Thanks . (Although they do need a email address to send this stuff to)

Beltronics Pro RX65 Now You Can Speed Like A Pro! Beltronics Pro RX65 Radar Detector

The Bel Pro is one of the top detectors that offers other than the Vector series. But there’s one nice thing about the Bel Pro , and that’s that it’s bred. It appears to be a detector that will take over from the already aging Passport . Well, as for some people have had the from the start, one I know has already sold their Passport for a newer Bel Pro . After getting a chance to take this bad boy for a spin, I was pleasantly surprised. Here’s what I found.
