I have had the Traveller II for quite some time now and overall I am very impressed in not only its sleek design but also how well it performed. Among the few radar detectors that I have used this one is up there with the best of them.

I have previously written a review on the Escort Solo S2 and it got moved to a different category, plus I was less experienced then so found my review to be very unsatisfactory. Times have changed, and I’ve decided to try this incredibly popular and expensive radar detector again. The Escort Solo S2 is the most recent newcomer in the cordless market from Escort. They claim that it’s much better than the Escort Solo. Well, here’s what I found.

Save your money…in my opinion the PNI Traveller is worthless. I purchased my Traveller from Amazon in October and the first thing I noticed was that the low-battery alarm went off after only a couple hours of use. Using my superior analytical skills, I concluded that the batteries shipped with the unit were probably old. I replaced the batteries at least three times with the same result.

This detector actually does work. It’s a really nice, small design and has some well thought out functions and programming. False alerts are fairly limited… the bad news is that the range is far too short to do much (if any) good.
I generally get a visual on the cop at about the same time as the detector goes off. All in all, you are far better off to just keep on the alert when speeding.

Background:
I have used many radar detectors over the years, all in the $100-$200 range and the Sensoro Silver Bullet has been the best of them all. There wasn’t much information about the detector when I bought mine back in 2004, so I decided to try one. I drive a 2002 Z28 and a single speeding ticket could double my insurance, so this is what the Sensoro was purchased for. After using the detector for a year and a half, I am really happy with it.

The Escort Solo is Escort’s older model, not the new extremely expensive Escort Solo S2. The Solos came out with a variety of models. They were known for providing decent X-Band coverage, but time eventually catches up… The Escort Solo is still sold here and there for under $200. Before the S2 came out, it sold for about $199. It’s very popular since it has the familiar curves of the acclaimed Passport series detectors from Escort. Well, from using this once $200 device, here’s what I found.
