Having owned and operated radar detectors including top of the line and for quite some time, I have recently noticed a dramatic increase in laser use throughout the East Coast and the rest of the US. There is nothing worse than getting a ticket from state troopers who don’t care about safety, but rather care about meeting their ticket quota for the day. Let me introduce to you the Blinder Extreme M20 AND M40, the best Laser countermeasures on the market today. If you commute on any public highway for a significant amount of time, I’m sure you have experienced laser activity on the road. Before I explain why the Blinder is superior to the rest of the products out today, take a moment to see why laser is so much harder to detect than radar.

The Laser (LIDAR) Gun VS Radar Gun

Laser guns or LIDAR guns standing for LIght Detection And Ranging uses the same fundamentals as radar does. Instead of sending radio waves out to a target, LIDAR guns use a beam of light to target a single vehicle’s velocity. The gun, using the Doppler Effect, calculates the time it takes the light to travel from the gun to the car and back. LIDAR guns take several hundred measures per second and are extremely accurate.

The big difference between Radar and LIDAR (laser) guns is the beam divergence. When radar is used, the radio waves spread dramatically and an officer must determine which car is speeding in traffic using visual estimation. The officer also must wait until the target speed and maximum speed match on the radar gun, thus showing the fastest car entering the target range. This must be done since the radar waves are hitting all cars. For example, radar at 1000 feet has spread hundreds of feet, and someone with a radar detector can easily pick up the radar and slow down due to its divergence.

Laser operates differently by allowing an officer to actually pinpoint ONE vehicle in the pack and accurately and quickly determine its speed. All police officers are trained how to operate and what to target on cars. First, cops will target the license plate (if you have one) since most are reflective and will provide the easiest way to capture speed. If the plate doesn’t work, cops will target the headlamps (they use a parabola to reflect light). Also, light colored cars are easier to get a reading on since lighter colors reflect light and dark ones absorb light. Driving a black car will reduce the laser gun’s range.

One common myth: driving with your lights on will defeat laser guns. FALSE!!! This was true many years ago, but today’s guns are not affected by your headlights being on. Laser guns use a scope to single out cars and when used within 1000 feet, speed can be obtained in less than 1 second. With a laser gun, the beam width at 1000 feet is only 3 feet! This makes detecting laser ahead of time almost impossible.

Radar Detectors Are Not Enough

Many radar detectors on the market advertise Laser Detection and many people purchase VERY expensive radar detectors with the impression of feeling invincible to police radar and laser guns. This assumption can get you in some very deep trouble, especially where I live (New Jersey). Police in NJ are notorious for using laser guns, and if your radar detector even alerts you to laser (remember at 1000 feet laser is only 3 feet wide) and you are speeding, you can thank your detector for giving you a confirmation of your speeding ticket. Even with the , the arrows will point in which direction your money will be leaving your pocket.

The Blinder M20 Extreme

In order to avoid a Laser gun speeding ticket, appropriate countermeasures must be implemented on your vehicle. This is where the Blinder comes in. The Blinder uses two Jamming Diodes containing LED’s specifically calibrated to broadcast the same type of light as the officer’s laser gun, thus jamming the laser gun being used. What separates the Blinder from all the other products out is the Blinder’s ability to JAM EVERY GUN ON THE MARKET CONSISTENTLY! The Blinder does this without showing any Jamming codes on the officer’s gun as well, which makes the very attractive and stealthy.

Installation

Installing the Blinder on your vehicle can prove to be a difficult task. I have personally installed the Blinder on my own vehicle with not too much difficulty. The mounts Blinder includes are not the best, and I used double sided 3M tape to avoid drilling holes in my grill. However, unless you are willing to run your own wires through the firewall, mount the two transceivers on the front of your car, install the alarm speaker, LED warning light and kill switch, I would recommend to get the installation professionally done at a local car shop.

If you drive a large SUV or truck, you may require a Blinder M40. The M40 contains 4 (four) jamming transceivers which allow coverage for a larger area. If you do not have a truck, you do not need the M40, as the M20 will be more than enough.

No matter how you install the transceivers, make sure you follow the directions in the box. Mount them between license plate and the headlights in order to give good protection. Usually this can be done by mounting in the grill. If you have a license plate, I would mount the transceivers closer to the license plate since this is the officer’s primary target area. MAKE SURE YOUR BLINDERS HAVE AN UNOBSTRUCTED VIEW OF THE ROAD AND ARE LEVEL!!!

Using the Blinder M20

Once installed in your vehicle, the Blinder provides protection from all laser guns. This does not mean, however, that you can speed past a cop at 110! The Blinder is designed to give you time to slow down and shut off the , so the officer can get a speed reading (after you slow down) on your car without any raised suspicion of use. The Blinder will not give you 100% protection either due to “Punch Through.” Once you get close enough to the officer’s gun, the gun will overpower the , resulting in punch through. However, this will not occur until you are within 300 feet at worst. By this time, you should have plenty of time to slow down.

The Blinder is in standby all the time and only fires when a Laser Gun is shot at your vehicle. When this occurs, the LED will turn from standby Green to jamming Red and the speaker will screech a ultra high pitched noise which can wake the dead (this is a good thing!). When the speaker goes off, the is activated and is currently jamming the laser gun. The continues to operate until the kill switch is activated, at which point you should be at speeds. Turning the unit off, as mentioned before, is a good idea since the cop will not know he was jammed, and you will not get any extra attention.

Many people have heard of the K40 laser , which is still being praised on many message boards. However, this, along with almost every other is not effective against the newer laser guns like the LTI Ultralite LR 200, Stalker LZ-1, Kustom Signals Pro Laser III, and Laser Atlanta’s gun with Stealth Mode. The Blinder is currently the ONLY to jam the Laser Atlanta in Stealth Mode.

Legality

Jamming Laser Guns is completely since laser is not controlled by the FCC. Therefore, jamming is in almost every state. There are a handful of states which do not allow jammers, but if you use the Blinder as stated above, you shouldn’t have a problem. Virginia, Washington DC, Minnesota, California, and Utah all outlaw laser jammers. There may be other states but these are the ones I am aware of.

Additional Products

For additional protection, Laser Veil, a substance that can be painted onto your headlights, fog lights, and license plates has been PROVEN to REDUCE LASER RANGE EVEN FURTHER!!! I HIGHLY recommend using Laser Veil in conjunction with your Blinder M20.

I would also recommend using a good radar detector in conjunction with the laser and laser veil. There are three detectors which reign supreme to all others. In no particular order, the X50, Valentine 1 version 1.8 with 2 band pop, and the Bel RX-65 are superior to ANY other radar detector in the world, hands down. I personally own the V1 since I love the arrows. The choice is yours!

I hope this review was helpful; I would not take the time to write this lengthy review if I did not believe and use this product myself.

****Make sure you buy the Blinder M20 Extreme from an authorized dealer! DO NOT BUY OFF EBAY….. The M20 is NOT the same as the M-06 or any other . Many scammers will place copy-cat jammers in the M20 box on ebay, and your warranty is void when purchasing on ebay. Is a 50 dollar savings worth getting a 400 dollar ticket and 3000 dollar insurance hike over 3 years?
