I have the “older” model whistler 1740 and have found it to be very effective.The main radar threat in our area {SC,NC and Georgia} is KA band and this little unit picks up KA band in plenty of time to slow down.It does,of course,pick up the automatic door opener,etc around town and I have found it to work best on the highway in the highway setting mode.I think I may have picked up laser a time or two and didnt even know if it worked until I used my golf laser range finder and it set it off at about 200 yards.For the money {I bought mine for about $40 at walmart 4 years ago} this is the best detector you can buy.I have owned numerous radar detectors over the past 20 years and of all the lower priced units available like Cobra and Beltronics,this one is far and away the best.Whistler makes a heck of a product for the money and I would recomend this model highly.Also, while visiting family in Baltimore MD I found that the VG2 cloaking works as it should also.I used my detector all the way thru Virginia and not one problem once I set the VG2 to “ON”.It takes a bit of time to learn how to use any detector.Ideally it will go off in advance as the police clock the vehicles ahead of you.The signal strength indicator is a great tool for this.

This one is a great detector for the money.Id highly recomend it to anyone who travels.
